God. & The Women's World Cup.

Alright. Let's be honest here. I had NO idea that the Women's World Cup was happening until two days before it started..

But when I found out about it I immediately went to my TV and recorded every game. After all, I'm a soccer player, and I'm a girl, so I should probably know what's happening with this thing. I watched the first USWNT game and was unimpressed. Women's soccer is kind of boring. But whatever, I'm from the USA so "Woohoo Go USA!" statuses and conversations started becoming frequent. I looked up information on players, chose favorites (HOPE SOLO, Lauren Cheney, Alex Morgan, Abby Wambach, and Heather O'Reiley if you want to know), watched interviews, and watched more soccer games. I was starting to get into it more, then came their game against Sweden. They lost. My attitude went back to not caring because I knew that they were going to play Brazil the next game and possibly get knocked out of the tournament.

Game day against Brazil. It happened to be on while I was at church, I managed to not find out the final score and went home to watch it. Wow. Probably the most intense game of soccer ever. It brought together everything people love and hate about soccer... After the US won in PKS I jumped right back on that bandwagon and was looking forward to their game against France! Fast Forward to now, and I'm GENUINELY excited for the final against Japan. The USWNT has surprised and impressed me.

While I was thinking about this world cup journey, I started thinking about the parallels between my (& a lot of other people's) attitude with this, and my (& a lot of other people's) attitude with their relationship with God.

We don't "keep up" with God most of the time. Then, something happens to slightly bring your attention back to Him, and you think "well, I'm a christian, I should probably know what's going on with all this stuff." So you read you Bible a little bit, and pray, and talk to other people about God, and make your facebook status a Bible verse every once in a while... But then you slowly lose interest again. Then BAM He does something incredible and you can't believe it and you get so excited and are on such a high! Your top priority is the "Final". But that high comes to an end.. Just as it will with the WWC. The final will be over, and I'll probably go back to not really caring about Women's soccer. That's the same with what normally happens in our Christian walk. Once that "high" wears off. In Revelation God makes it pretty clear about what He thinks about that.

"I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So because you are lukewarm-neither hot nor cold-I am about to spit you out of my mouth" -Revelation 3:15-16

Keep that in mind as you're going on missions trips, coming back from missions trips, and doing whatever else you have to do in life.. Focus on the most important "Final", being together with God forever.

Oh, and don't forget to root for the USWNT Sunday at 2pm in the World Cup Final! :)
